Betting on the Chicago Bulls (-4.5)
Regular Season Record: 43-31
The Bulls prevented a three-game losing skid when they defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers on the road last Saturday, 98-94. Zach LaVine was in his bag against the Cavs, as he scored 25 points, while DeMar DeRozan had 20. With newfound momentum, the Bulls will look to keep things going when they meet New York for the fourth time this season. Chicago currently has the upper hand in the regular-season series, having won twice over the Knicks already. DeRozan has been toying with the Knicks’ defense this season, as he is averaging 28.3 points on 50.9 percent shooting from the field against them. Nikola Vucevic appeared in two games versus New York this season and put up an average of 24.5 points on 58.1 percent shooting in those contests. That’s the kind of efficiency Chicago’s offense has been showing up with this season. In fact, the Bulls are sixth in the NBA with a 54.4 effective field goal percentage, though they are also not that big on 3-pointers – just 30th in 3-point attempts per game.
The Under is 3-1 in the Bulls’ last four games overall.
Betting on the New York Knicks (+4.5)
Regular Season Record: 33-42
The Knicks are holding on to slim hopes of making the cut for the Play-in tournament. They are currently five games behind for the 10th and last spot in the Play-in window, with just eight games remaining on their regular-season schedule, including Sunday’s matchup against the Detroit Pistons on the road. Whatever happens in that Pistons game, the Knicks will be pressured to deliver a win on Monday if they are to entertain dreams of joining the postseason fray. The Knicks are actually having some success of late, having scored wins over the Charlotte Hornets and the Miami Heat on the road last week. They also defeated the Detroit Pistons on Sunday. Although they’ve lost twice this season to the Bulls this season, the Knicks drew first blood when they downed Chicago in October on the road, 104-103. It will be a huge plus for the Knicks if Julius Randle shows up in this game, so keep an eye out for his availability.
The Knicks are 4-1 against the spread in their last five home games versus the Bulls.
Writer’s Prediction
The Bulls win, 112-108.
