Chicago finally snapped its seven-game slide thanks to a much-needed 6-4 victory in second game versus the Mets on Tuesday. This Wednesday, the White Sox hope to garner the same result when they hand the ball to Miguel Gonzalez (0-1, 4.50 ERA) in this afternoon’s series finale.

Gonzalez will be making his sixth start of the season here, where he’ll hope to redeem himself from a relatively ugly showing in his previous start opposite the Royals last Friday. In that game, the right-handed Mexican surrendered three earned runs across six-and-a-third innings. Obviously, Chicago lost that game, 7-5.

In the event that Gonzalez struggles on the mound once more, the onus is on Chicago’s offense to provide some runs at the plate. That said, look to the pairing of Melky Cabrera and Todd Frazier to deliver the goods.

Cabrera leads the White Sox in batting (.283) this season. He also went 2-of-4 in the second game versus New York. Frazier, meanwhile, has been cold lately, going just 1-of-17 in the past four outings. Nevertheless, the 30-year-old third baseman can go off at any given moment, as Frazier carries team-highs of 16 homers and 37 RBIs.

Chicago is 2-8 SU in its last 10 road games. The White Sox are also priced at +225 to win the AL Central Division.

Betting on the New York Mets (29-22)

The New York Mets have got to be feeling good about Wednesday’s game. After all, the team will be expecting arguably their best starter — Jacob deGrom — to provide them an excellent performance on the mound later.

deGrom’s last start was against the Dodgers last week, and he did a marvelous job in that game despite getting a no-decision. The 2014 NL Rookie of the Year logged in seven innings of three-hit, one-run ball, while also striking out a total of seven batters. deGrom should be able to replicate this performance considering that the Mets will be playing at home, where he is 2-0 with a 2.25 ERA and 1.04 WHIP across four starts this season.

Over on offense, all eyes will be on Neil Walker and Yoenis Cespedes to provide some timely contributions at the plate. Those two have been pretty lethal this season, combining for 28 homers, 62 RBIs and 96 hits already.

Walker, in particular, is holding a hot bat right now. He’s gone 13-of-35 (.371) with a pair of doubles, three home runs and five RBIs in the last 10 games. The former Silver Slugger awardee is also 2-of-3 lifetime head-to-head against the White Sox’s starter this Wednesday, Miguel Gonzalez.

New York is 5-5 in its past 10 home games. The Mets are also pegged at +450 to win the National League championship.

Writer’s Prediction

Mets (-200) win it, 5-1.
