Betting on Cincinnati Bengals (0-0)

The Bengals are in for what is looking like a very long season ahead of them. Andy Dalton remains as the team’s starting quarterback, but he’ll have an offense that’s riddled with so many questions, perhaps none bigger than their offensive line that floundered in 2018 and now without veteran Clint Boling, who has already decided to hang up his cleats due to a health concern. That leaves the Bengals with a decision to make at least at the left guard slot, as they are going to need to replace Boling likely with anyone from the group of Christian Westerman, John Jerry, Trey Hopkins, and Michael Jordan. This preseason game against the Chiefs will be a good time for the Bengals to evaluate. Cincy’s offense will also take a look at some of the rookies this Saturday, including tight end Drew Sample and running backs Trayveon Williams and Rodney Anderson.

The Bengals are 4-1 against the spread (ATS) in their last five preseason games.

Betting on Kansas City Chiefs (0-0)

By now, we all know how capable Patrick Mahomes is in running the Chiefs’ offense. We also know that he’s only getting started. But for this matchup with Cincinnati, the Chiefs will opt to feature a gaggle of backups under center in Chad Henne, Chase Litton, and rookie Kyle Shurmur. They will have a chance of throwing at second-round wide receiver Mecole Hardman, who was trending up until it was decided by the NFL that it’s not going to suspend star wideout Tyreek Hill. Still, the Chiefs would like to see what they got in Hardman, so expect him to have plenty of snaps against the Bengals. Kansas City also invested in its defense via the draft, taking safety Juan Hill in the second round, defensive tackle Khalen Saunders in the third, and cornerback Rashad Fenton in the sixth.

The Chiefs are 6-4 ATS in their last 10 preseason games.

Writer’s Prediction

The Chiefs win, 26-23.
