Betting on the Clemson Tigers (-12.0 Spread / 1-0 Record)
Clemson showed no mercy in its first game of the season, as the Tigers beat FCS team Furman to a pulp last week, 48-7. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence could’ve thrown the ball with his eyes closed and still finish the job under center against the Paladins’ faulty defense, as he connected on nine of his 14 passes for three touchdowns and zero interceptions. Kelly Bryant also had a field day orchestrating the offense, as he passed for 132 yards (11/17) and a touchdown. Clemson’s backfield also did its part in the carnage, with Lyn-J Dixon burning rubber for 89 yards, while Travis Etienne had 11 carries for 63 rushing yards and a touchdown. All told, the Tigers had 249 rushing yards.
Clemson’s vaunted defense also flashed its sharp fang in the Furman game, as the Tigers’ stop unit forced a series of punts, turnovers, and fourth-down shortcomings in the Paladins’ first 11 possessions of the football game.
Texas A&M is a sturdier opponent with a bubbly offense, but Clemson’s defense is built to withstand almost any opposing offenses in college.
Clemson is 9-1 SU and 5-5 ATS in its last 10 road games.
Betting on the Texas A&M Aggies (+12.0 Spread / 1-0 Record)
The Aggies are also coming off a walk-in-the-park victory after putting on a clinic in last week’s 59-7 win at home over the Northwestern State Demons. The Demons simply didn’t have any chance against Texas A&M, which limited Northwestern State to 251 total yards. On the flipside, the Aggies unloaded a dizzying total of 758 yards in that game. The Aggies had a turnovers in that game, but that’s always bound to happen considering the fact that they had possession of the ball for over 41 minutes. The Aggies were up 52-0 before allowing the Demons to score, perhaps out of pity.
The Aggies, however, were not able to record a sack in that game. They should have generate more pressure this Saturday against the two-headed quarterback monster of Clemson, which allowed two sacks last week.
The Tigers also allowed 117 rushing yards to Furman in Week 1, which could be taken as a sign that there are some cracks on Clemson’s defense against the run. If so, expect the Aggies to take advantage of it. Against the Demons, Texas A&M had 503 rushing yards and five rushing scores.
Texas A&M is 3-1-1 ATS in its last five home games.
Writer’s Prediction
Clemson wins, 28-21.
