Betting on the Cleveland Browns (+9.5)
There were some notable deaths over the weekend, and among them were the Browns, who were laid to rest for the third week in row, losing to Miami in overtime on the road, 26-20.
The Browns are used to losing but this one must have stung more, considering they could have bagged a victory had kicker Cody Parker not miss all of his three field goal attempts, including the one near the end of regulation.
Making his first start of the season, third-string quarterback Cody Kesler passed for 244 passing yards with no touchdowns on 21 of 33 completions. The Browns don’t seem to have any other option but to keep rolling with Kessler next week in Washington.
Despite the loss to Miami, Terrelle Pryor shone for the Browns, as the versatile playmaker caught eight passes for 144 yards. Gary Barnidge will also be another threat for the Redskins’ silk-thin pass defense that ranks just 25th in the league with 301.7 passing yards allowed per game.
Even better for the Browns is the possibility of Washington missing two key pieces on its secondary with DeAngelo Hall and Bashaud Breeland sustaining injuries on Sunday.
The under is 6-1 in the Browns’ last seven road games.
Betting on the Washington Redskins (-9.5)
Kirk Cousins and the Redskins finally had something to like, as they beat the Giants, 29-27, on Sunday for Washington’s first W of the season. Now they get a chance to win two in a row against the struggling and visiting Browns next Sunday.
Cousins threw for 296 yards and a pair of touchdowns, connecting one each to DeSean Jackson and Jamison Crowder, and finishing with no interceptions against New York. The Browns also have a faulty pass defense, which Cousins and his receivers might find generous enough for them to deal heavy damage. The Browns have allowed 294.3 passing yards per game thus far this season.
While it was mentioned earlier that Washington has some hurt bodies on its secondary, the Redskins could just be fine moving forward especially if Quinton Dunbar proves that last Sunday’s performance against the Giants was no fluke. Dunbar made his first appearance of the season versus New York, intercepting a pass and catching one, thus underlining his versatility.
The Redskins are 6-4 SU and 5-5 ATS in their last 10 home games dating back to last year.
