Betting on Creighton Bluejays (18-2, 5-2 Big East)
Point Spread: -1.5
Creighton took the biggest blow in the latest AP poll, dropping all the way down to No. 16 after a home loss to Marquette on Saturday, 102-94.
The emotions were high in that game in which the then-No. 7 Bluejays played without Maurice Watson Jr. (ACL) for the first time. His absence didn’t slow down the team offensively, with junior Marcus Foster going 13-of-24 from the field for a game-high 30 points while Davion Mintz pitched in 17 off the bench.
Justin Patton and Isaiah Zierden also scored in double digits with 11 and 15 points, respectively, on a night where the offense shot nearly 50 percent collectively. The problem, however, was on the defensive end, where coach Greg McDermott’s boys allowed a season-high 102 points on 60 percent shooting.
Foster (18.7) and Patton (13.7) should manage to keep the Bluejays’ offense going, but winning obviously becomes almost impossible when the defense doesn’t do its part. Creighton is giving up a respectable 72.7 points this season.
The Bluejays are 5-5 SU and 6-4 ATS in their previous 10 road games.
Betting on the Georgetown Hoyas (10-10, 1-6 Big East)
Point Spread: +1.5
Georgetown seeks to rebound as well. The Hoyas have lost two in a row, and are a just 1-6 in conference play. They can do damage on the either ends of the floor, averaging close to 80 points per game while allowing 72.1 points to opponents this season.
The thing they’ve yet to figure out, though, is executing in clutch time. Majority of their losses have been decided by single digits or have gone straight down the wire, including last Sunday’s 86-75 setback to Xavier. The Hoyas fought all the way back from a 12-point deficit in the second half before eventually running out of gas in the final minutes.
Rodney Pryor finished with a team-high 23 points with L.J. Peak adding in 12 points of his own. On the season, they lead the team in scoring with 33.9 points combined. But most their efforts, unfortunately, haven’t turned into victories.
The Hoyas are 1-4 against ranked foes this season with the only win coming against Oregon on Nov. 22.
