Betting on the Dallas Cowboys (-3)
Regular Season Record: 6-9
The mission is simply for the Cowboys in Week 17: just win. Dallas needs to defeat the Giants then hope that the Washington Football Team loses. If everything goes according to the Cowboys’ favor, they would be crowned the NFC East champs to earn a ticket to the playoffs. The Cowboys put themselves in a position to get that by winning all their last three games. They have defeated the Cincinnati Bengals, San Francisco 49ers, and the Philadelphia Eagles over that stretch, thanks in large part to their offense that has come alive. The Cowboys are averaging 25.1 points per game on the season, but since Week 14, they have put up 36.0 points. Andy Dalton has done an excellent job of late. He had 377 passing yards and three touchdowns with just an interception in the 37-17 home win over the Eagles, and has nine touchdowns against two picks in his last four starts. Meanwhile, running back Ezekiel Elliott will look to torch the Giants’ defense anew. He had 91 rushing yards and a couple of touchdowns on 19 carries during the Cowboys’ 37-34 win over New York back in Week 5 at home.
The Cowboys are 2-1 against the spread (ATS) in their last three games on the road.
Betting on the New York Giants (+3)
Regular Season Record: 5-10
The Giants have completely cooled off after a four-game win streak. They are 0-3 straight up over their last four games, including their 27-13 road loss to the Baltimore Ravens last Sunday. Daniel Jones was helpless against the Ravens’ pass rush, as he was sacked six times for a loss of 37 yards. He finished the game with 252 passing yards and a touchdown on 24-of-41 completions, an unspectacular performance that only adds to the question of whether he’s the right man for the job in the long run for the Giants. As for the short term, there’s hope in him to take advantage of Dallas’ faulty defense. The Cowboys are 30th in the NFL with 30.0 points allowed per game and 26th with 389.8 total yards surrendered per contest. In the win over the Cowboys in Week 5, Jones passed for 222 yards with zero TDs and no interceptions on 20-of-33 completions. New York’s defense also had two touchdowns in that game, thanks to Dallas’ error-prone offense. The Cowboys are 28th in the NFL with 1.7 giveaways per game.
The under is 3-0 in the Giants’ last three games overall.
Writer’s Prediction
The Cowboys win, 27-21.
