Betting on the Dayton Flyers (odds)
Record: 15-9 Overall/7-4 Conference
The Flyers fell prey to the St. Bonaventure Bonnies last Saturday on the road, 68-59, to see their two-game win streak end. On the season, Dayton is 7-4 versus teams from the Atlantic 10 Conference, which is only good for fifth place at the moment. It was a return to the Flyers’ mediocre scoring ways after averaging 85.5 points in Dayton’s previous two games. However, Dayton is mostly relying on its defense to carry it. The Flyers are 13th in the nation with just 61.5 points allowed per game and only 212th with 69.3 points per outing. That said, Dayton is tops in the A-10 with an adjusted offensive efficiency of 110.5. The Flyers are hoping they’d shoot nearer to conference percentage from deep in the rematch versus VCU than they did in their 63-52 loss to the Rams in which they went just 3/10 from deep.
Dayton, which is No. 1 in the conference with a 39.0 3FG%, has seen the total hit the Over in four of its last five outings.
Betting on the VCU Commonwealth Rams (odds)
Record: 18-6 Overall/9-2 Conference
VCU is in much better form at the moment than the Flyers. The Rams have won both of their last two games. In their most recent outing, the Rams won against the Saint Louis Billikens on the road Saturday, 73-65. They check out to be a better offensive team than Dayton, as VCU is putting up 70.5 points per game this season. Brandon Johns Jr. scored 16 points in the win against Dayton, while Adrian Baldwin Jr. only had six points, Perhaps, Baldwin is due for a big game versus the Flyers. After all, he is leading the Rams with 13.5 points per game. Plus, he just exploded for 37 points in the win over the Billikens.
VCU is 5-4-1 against the spread in its last 10 games overall.
Writer’s Prediction
VCU wins, 68-64.
