It was another week of offensive and defensive stagnancy for the Hornets. They dropped to 0-2 after losing to the Hampton Pirates on Friday, 28-15.

The passing game is yet to provide any touchdown. Their quarterback, Jack McDaniels, has been playing groggy under center, as he is an abysmal 27-for-58 (46.5 completion rate) for 321 yards and one interception in the two losses. Sophomore Jordan Hannah, who has five catches for 93 yards (18.6 yards per catch), is the most notable in the receiving corps.

The backfield isn’t much of a help, as it only produces 2.5 yards per carry. No one in the group has also scored a TD, and McDaniels’s sneaking rush this past week was their lone rushing score.

As for the defense, it has not done anything significant. Their unit allows 25 points and 435 total yards per game.

West Virginia, as expected, bounced back from their loss in the season-opener. Week 2 had them easing past the East Carolina Pirates, 56-20, where they scored 49 of the game’s first 52 points.

The rout featured three good stat lines – Will Grier throwing for 352 yards and five TDs, David Sills catching seven passes for 133 yards and two TDs, and running back Justin Crawford running for 118 yards and a pair of rushing scores. Considering how awful Delaware State has been defensively, and how far down they are in the echelon of college football, we can expect Grier and company to have another explosive performance.

The Mountaineers defense, which allows 25.5 points, 281.5 passing yards, and 188 rushing yards per game, may not be as commanding as the offense, but it’ll still have its moments. Also, the DSU offense is arguably the group’s easiest challenge for the season.

Dating back to the 2015 season, WVU has won 10 of their last 11 games at home (5-6 ATS).
