Betting on the Denver Nuggets (26-33)
Point Spread: +3
Clinging to the eighth and final playoff spot in the West, the Nuggets dominated the Bulls on Tuesday, 125-107. The night of yet another offensive explosion had them concluding February with five 120-plus point games.
Through those scoring barrages, Denver is now pouring 110.8 PPG on the season, and they have quietly risen to be top six in the league in scoring and offensive efficiency.
As a seven-footer who can run, shoot a soft touch, and also dish a fancy pass, Nikola Jokic is easily one of the most fascinating players today, and we should be expecting another great stat line from him. He’ll be fresh off a triple-double performance against Chicago, and was also able to record one in the Nuggets’ 121-117 win over with the Bucks early in the month. The Serbian is averaging 19 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 5.5 assists on 58.6 percent shooting since returning to the starting lineup in mid-December.
Jokic and the Nuggets, as you may know, will be facing a lot of size versus the Bucks, but they too will be bringing a lot. Five active guys, including swingmen Danilo Gallinari, Wilson Chandler, and Will Barton, are all averaging more than 14 PPG.
Denver is 7-13 in their last 20 games on the road (8-12 ATS), and they haven’t two straight road games all year.
Betting on the Milwaukee Bucks (26-32)
Point Spread: -3
The Bucks continued their ugly stretch Monday night, as they lost to the Cavaliers for the third time this season, 102-95. It was their 14th loss in 20 games (5-15 ATS), and it also featured one of Giannis Antetokounmpo’s worst performances of the year – 4-for-13 shooting for nine points in 42 minutes of action.
In the said loss to the Nuggets weeks back, “The Greek Freak” did his typical, stat-stuffing ways, posting 23 points, eight rebounds, and five assists, which was identical to his season stats. He’ll have to do something similar and more, especially now that scoring partner Jabari Parker isn’t by his side (torn ACL).
Among the guys that have an increased task on offense is Malcolm Brogdon. The gritty, first-year point guard is having a solid rookie campaign, and he’s netting 13.3 points and 4.4 assists in his last seven, despite only receiving 25.3 minutes of playing time.
Forwards Michael Beasley, who scores 9.7 points in 17 minutes per game this season, and the returning Khris Middleton (hamstring) have taken Parker’s spot in the rotation. We should see them have good games in the future. Middleton is still getting eased into the plays, but he did have 20 points points just a week ago.
Writer’s Prediction
The Bucks (-3) win, 118-113.
