Betting on the Detroit Tigers
David Price’s last game for Tampa Bay didn’t go exactly as planned. The left-hander allowed three runs over seven innings and received zero run support as the Rays fell 5-0 to the Milwaukee Brewers. The Rays had won Price’s six starts prior, with the ace wielding a 1.31 ERA.
[sc:MLB240banner ]Price will be out to make a better impression for the Tigers against the Yankees in New York, where he’s had some pretty good success. The Rays won their last five games with Price on the mound at Yankee Stadium. In his two starts in the Bronx this season, he went a combined 14 innings, giving up just three runs while striking out 17.
The Tigers had their three-game winning streak snapped yesterday as they fell 2-1 in the first game of the series against the Yankees. Miguel Cabrera went 0-for-3, which saw his six-game hitting streak come to an end. The reigning MVP will be out to redeem himself tonight against the Yankees’ Hiroki Kuroda. Cabrera is 4-for-9 against the Japanese pitcher in the regular season, with half of those hits resulting in home runs.
Betting on the New York Yankees
After capturing the last two games of a three-game set against the rival Boston Red Sox, the New York Yankees extended their winning streak to three with a close 2-1 win over the Tigers. Hiroki Kuroda is set to take the ball for the Yankees tonight with the intention of extending their winning run further.
Kuroda hasn’t been as lights out as David Price on the mound for the Yankees, although his 3.38 ERA in July was the fourth straight month his ERA has dropped this season. While Kuroda is almost certain to give up a couple of runs (he’s surrendered at least two in nine of his last 10 starts), the total has still gone under in eight of his 10 games.
On offense, the Yankees will rely on the hot bats of Brett Gardner and Carlos Beltran. Gardner, who hit four homers in a three-game series against the Texas Rangers just last week, stroked in five more hits in his last two games. Meanwhile, DH Beltran has also been a hitting machine recently, batting .425 with three homers and nine RBIs in his last 10 games.
