Betting on the Duke Blue Devils (odds)
Record: 19-4 Overall/9-3 Conference
Duke was cruising until the Virginia Cavaliers showed up and snapped the Blue Devils’ five-game win streak last Monday. Duke’s 69-68 home loss to the Cavs was just another example of how college basketball is full of traps. That being said, there are still plenty of reasons to trust the Blue Devils. They have arguably the best player in college today in Paolo Banchero, who is averaging 17.2 points and 8.4 rebounds per game. He was bottled up by Virginia, but he should have enough space to operate and dominate this Saturday against Boston College’s much generous defense. The Eagles are 149th in the nation in adjusted defensive efficiency and are among the worst defenders against the three. In fact, Boston College is letting opponents make 37 percent of their 3-point attempts – 325th in Division I basketball.
Duke, which is scheduled to play the Clemson Tigers Thursday, is 6-4 against the spread in it last 10 games against Boston College.
Betting on the Boston College Eagles (odds)
Record: 9-13 Overall/4-8 Conference
Boston College was plagued by a freezing cold offense in a 73-64 home loss to the Syracuse Orange last Tuesday. The Eagles bricked all their first 10 shots from the field and failed to connect on the first 11 tries from behind the arc. Boston College can’t allow itself to start with that kind of horrific shooting performance against Duke, as it’s going to be so difficult for the Eagles to catch the Blue Devils with an early big deficit. To that end, Jaeden Zackery will look to sustain his form after leading Boston College in the Syracuse game with 18 points, six rebounds, and six assists. Seven-footer Quinten Post had a double-double of 14 points and 14 rebounds against Syracuse. His rebounding will be crucial for the Eagles in order to slow down the Blue Devils. Even though they are struggling in ACC play, the Eagles have had some success, with wins against the likes of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Virginia Tech Hokies, and Clemson.
The Under is 3-1 in Boston College’s last four games overall.
Writer’s Prediction
Duke wins, 78-60.
