Betting on the Duke Blue Devils (odds)
Record: 25-4 Overall/15-3 Conference
Duke is at the top of its game right now. Some people believed that the Syracuse Orange would give the Blue Devils a tough time, but that just did not happen at all last Saturday, as Duke crushed Jim Boeheim’s team in a 97-72 road win. The Blue Devils have now won six games in a row and will be facing an ACC minnow this coming Tuesday in the form of the Panthers. Duke should be able to handle its business just fine against Pittsburgh. The Blue Devils are the No. 1 team in the conference in both adjusted offensive efficiency (114.9 points per 100 possessions) and in adjusted defensive efficiency (99.2 points allowed per 100 possessions). Meanwhile, the Panthers are among the worst in the ACC in both departments.
Duke, ninth in the nation with 80.1 points per game, is 6-4 against the spread in its last 10 games overall.
Betting on the Pittsburgh Panthers (odds)
Record: 11-18 Overall/6-12 Conference
Pittsburgh suffered its 12th loss in conference play when it got felled by the Miami Hurricanes 85-64 back on Feb. 22 at home. The Panthers didn’t see any action since, though, so at least they should be very well rested when they meet Duke at home this Tuesday. Although the Panthers have struggled for the most part this season, they managed to score some decent victories this season against solid programs. Pittsburgh has wins against the St. John’s Red Storm, Syracuse Orange, and North Carolina Tar Heels. The Panthers also lost by just a point to the Virginia Cavaliers back in December. This team makes a living from the free-throw line. In fact, Pittsburgh is 21st in the nation with 21.3 attempts from the foul line per game. When it beat the Tar Heels, Pittsburgh went 18/20 on their FTs and shot 51.1 percent from the field.
Pittsburgh is 5-5 against the spread in its last 10 games overall.
Writer’s Prediction
Duke wins, 78-60.
