Betting on the Fresno State Bulldogs (1-1)

Spread: +33

Following a remarkable 66-0 shutout over the Incarnate Word Cardinals Week 1, the Fresno State Bulldogs had a reality check over the weekend when they were routed by the top-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide, 44-10.

Unlike in the team’s rout of the Cardinals, Fresno State didn’t have the luxury of tinkering with their quarterbacks against mighty ‘Bama. In turn, regular starter Chason Virgil threw for just 180 yards along with a touchdown and an interception, and finished with a dismal QB rating of 44.1 in the loss.

The Bulldogs’ running game was stifled as well to say the least, garnering just 58 rushing yards on 22 carries compared to 40 carries, 199 yards and four TDs on the ground against IW.

Considering that Fresno State has to face another top-10 opponent in a short amount of time, the team is bound to be blown out by a true powerhouse program again. Making matters worse is that this Saturday’s clash against Washington is on the road, where the Bulldogs have lost eight straight contests (3-5 ATS) dating back to the final game of the 2015 season. They’ve scored just an average of 13.6 points in this eight-game road sample.

Betting on the Washington Huskies (2-0)

Spread: -33

The No. 6 Washington Huskies just seem to get better as the season rolls on. They followed-up their 30-14 win over Rutgers with an even more impressive 63-7 domination of the Montana Grizzlies this past weekend.

Quarterback Jake Browning had another two-touchdown effort in the win, finishing with 259 passing yards after converting 22 of his 26 pass attempts. Washington’s running game was even better, as the team amassed 213 rushing yards on 37 carries to go with five TDs on the ground.

Don’t count on a Washington upset this weekend against Fresno State. As the complete opposite of the Bulldogs, the Huskies have won eight of their last nine games at home. And while the boys from Seattle went just 5-4 against the spread in those contests, it’s worth noting that they were favored to win by no less than 46.5 points in each of those games.

Covering the relatively large 33-point spread shouldn’t be a problem for the Huskies, especially with the Bulldogs having just been beaten badly by Alabama last week.
