Betting on the Georgia Bulldogs (-7)

The return of Nick Chubb won’t be enough to assure the Georgia Bulldogs, who enter this game as losers of back-to-back contests to Ole Miss and Tennessee, a win.

Chubb, without a doubt, will provide a major boost on offense, but the Bulldogs are likely still hurting from the heart-breaking loss to the Volunteers and must fix their defense. They’ve surrendered 24 or more points in each game this season, including 79 points combined in the previous two.

This weekend’s date with South Carolina, a team that has been struggling to score, would be the perfect time for the Georgia D to wake up. Through five games, the Gamecocks are only averaging 14.0 points, the lowest in the SEC.

It should also be a good opportunity for Jacob Eason to keep stepping up. The rookie quarterback has been gradually earning his team’s trust this season. Eason has nearly thrown for 1,000 yards along with seven touchdowns, the latest of which was a clutch go-ahead score with 10 seconds left to play against Tennessee.

Georgia is 7-3 SU and 5-5 ATS in its last 10 road games overall.

Betting on the South Carolina Gamecocks (+7)

The South Carolina Gamecocks are also looking to get back on track after losing two-straight games against Kentucky and Texas A&M. Both games, though, were tightly contested thanks to an almost-impregnable South Carolina defense (18.6 points allowed per game).

Yes, the Gamecocks’ D has been superb, but it’s the complete opposite when describing their offense this season. Head coach Will Muschamp, who’s in his first year with the team, better start coming up with some positive results before things become much worse.

Speaking of which, the quarterback situation is still as bleak as ever with both Perry Orth and Brandon McIlwain having yet to make a big impact.

With that being the case, first-year running back A.J. Turner appears to be the only silver lining on offense. Turner rushed for 113 yards and the Gamecock’s only touchdown versus the Aggies in Week 5. He might just be able to do so in front of a loud home crowd and most especially if the Georgia defense continues to give away points.

South Carolina is 4-6 SU and 6-4 ATS in its last 10 home games.

Writer’s Prediction

Chubb shines for Georgia, but the Gamecocks (+7) get the upset, 24-20, through their defense.
