Offensive Edge – Germany (-7)

2016-Summer-Olympics---News-Banners-250x130-V1

When it comes to attacking talent, Germany definitely holds the advantage in this matchup. They have in their ranks world-class stars such as Arsenal midfielder Serge Gnabry and Lars Bender. Gnabry showed his worth in Germany’s last match against South Korea, scoring twice, including a crucial last-gasp equalizer in injury time. His free kick from just outside the penalty area took a massive deflection from the Koreans and found its way into the back of the net. The Germans have now scored five goals thus far in this tournament.

Fiji, on the other hand, have struggled mightily on the offensive end in these Summer Games. The Fijians have scored just a single goal in their opening two matches. Their attacking woes were pretty much evident in their last game against Mexico wherein they only managed 32 percent of the possession. As a result, the Fijians were outshot by the Mexicans, 15-10. Fiji only had one shot on target the entire match, that being Roy Krishna’s goal in the 10th minute.

Defensive Edge – Germany (-7)

The Germany defense should be a bit disappointed after surrendering a 2-1 lead against South Korea on Sunday. But if the Germans enjoy anything close to the 68 percent possession Mexico had against Fiji, the German defense should have very little to worry about. The Fijians were simply unable to stop the Mexican attack in their last match, giving up 15 total shots (6 on goal) en route to a 5-1 blowout loss. They have allowed a whopping 47 shots in their opening two matches. It’ll be considered a major success if they can manage to reduce the margin of defeat against a German team that’s clearly superior to Mexico.

Writer’s Prediction: Germany (-7) shows no mercy as it routs Fiji 8-0.
