Betting on the Golden State Warriors (-11)
Kevin Durant was as hot as fire on Thursday, finishing with a game-high 39 points on 15-of-24 shooting, including seven treys, en route to a very convincing 122-96 win over the Thunder.
Golden State started off slow in that game, allowing their conference rivals to build an early nine-point lead in the opening period. But then, KD got it going and the rest of his teammates followed his footsteps to eventually break the game completely open by the end of the first half.
Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson had a relatively rough shooting night, but both still managed to pitch in 21 and 18 points, respectively. Draymond Green, meanwhile, made his presence felt everywhere, contributing nine points, 10 boards, five dimes, four blocks and a steal.
Playing on the second game of a back-to-back gives us some concern about the Warriors’ energy level heading into tonight’s road game with the Lakers. Other than that, this game should be a sure win for the Dubs since the Lakers have yet to figure out how to close out games properly.
LA did manage to pull out a come-from-behind road victory against Atlanta on Wednesday, so there’s a small chance of witnessing an upset, especially if the Warriors experience one of those bad shooting nights.
The Warriors were manhandled by the purple and gold in their final regular-season meeting last year.
Betting on the Los Angeles Lakers (+11)
The purple and gold have been fun to watch this season. Sure, their 2-3 record may not agree with it, but the Lakers have put themselves in position to win every game thus far. They finally got the job done last Wednesday night, when they came back from a 12-point deficit to beat the Hawks on the road, 123-116.
D’Angelo Russell led the Lake Show with 23 points and eight assists along with three rejections. Lou Williams and Jordan Clarkson, meanwhile, chipped in 34 points combined off the bench, including 16 in the final quarter from the former Hawks guard.
That win has given Luke Walton’s squad a much-needed boost in confidence for tonight’s encounter with the visiting Warriors, who are fresh off a blowout win over the Thunder last night. In terms of scoring, LA has enough firepower and young legs to make this a close game, but it’ll also have to play some good, honest defense to do so.
The Lakers are allowing 110.8 points per contest, the sixth-highest in the league right now. They’re also 4-1 ATS this season.
Writer’s Prediction
Lakers keep it interesting until Kevin Durant and co. decide to go off in the fourth period, giving the Warriors their fifth-consecutive win.
