Betting on the Golden State Warriors (53-24 Record)
The Warriors moved a step closer towards securing a No. 1 seed in the playoffs after defeating the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday at home, 116-102. Kevin Durant had a brilliant night that helped propel the Warriors past their biggest challenger for regular season supremacy in the Western Conference, as the former league MVP scored 21 points on 9-for-13 shooting from the field. DeMarcus Cousins, meanwhile, paced all scorers with 13 points on 12-for-17 shooting. He also had 13 rebounds while doing his best to contain Nikola Jokic, who only had 10 points. Cousins will not have much of a problem on defense against the Lakers, who doesn’t have an elite big man to give Cousins or Durant a run for their own money down low. Durant and Cousins combined for 38 points in the Warriors’ 115-101 home win over the Lakers at home last February.
The Warriors are 4-2 against the spread (ATS) in their last six road games.
Betting on the Los Angeles Lakers (35-43 Record)
The Lakers got victimized by Russell Westbrook’s historic night in a 119-103 road loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday. Westbrook tallied the first 20-20-20 game since Wilt Chamberlain did it in 1968, a performance that reflects how vulnerable the Lakers’ defense is this late in the season. The Lakers were also missing some of their top offensive guns against the Thunder, with LeBron James done for the season and Kyle Kuzma ruled out due to a left foot injury. It’s uncertain as of this writing whether Kuzma will be able to play against the Warriors, but it’s probably worth assuming that he won’t, considering that the Lakers are merely playing for nothing outside of the lottery balls in this year’s NBA Draft. If Kuzma can’t go, then most of the offensive duties will fall on the shoulders of Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, who led the Lakers with 23 points against the Thunder. Caldwell-Pope is taking advantage of an increased usage rage of late. He has averaged 20.6 points over the last five Lakers games – the most among non-injured players over that same stretch.
The Lakers are 3-0 ATS in their last three home games.
Writer’s Prediction
Golden State wins, 124-103.
