Betting on the Golden State Warriors (-10.5)
The Golden State Warriors returned to winning ways Sunday with a gritty 116-108 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves. Klay Thompson scored a game-high 30 points for the Warriors who narrowly avoided their first set of consecutive regular-season losses since 2015. With the victory, Golden State moved one game clear of San Antonio atop the Western Conference standings.
The Warriors will look to sustain the momentum of that huge win when they lock horns with the Pelicans this coming Tuesday. For the Warriors to accomplish that feat, they will need to continue their excellent play on the offensive end. Golden State is tops in the NBA in scoring, averaging a whopping 118.0 points per game this season. They will be licking their chops at the prospect of facing a New Orleans defense that’s 22nd in the NBA in scoring defense, surrendering 106.8 points per contest.
One guy who’s expected to explode in this encounter is Stephen Curry. He averaged 34.5 points and 6.5 assists in two meetings with New Orleans this season. He scored 22 points and dished out nine dimes in Sunday’s win against Minnesota.
The Warriors are 5-4-1 ATS in their last 10 road games.
Betting on the New Orleans Pelicans (+10.5)
The New Orleans Pelicans finally snapped their five-game losing skid with a nerve-wracking 120-119 overtime victory over the Phoenix Suns on Sunday. Tim Frazier recorded his first NBA triple-double to help the Pelicans battle back from a 15-point second-half deficit. Frazier has been superb for New Orleans this season, averaging 10.8 points and a team-best 7.4 assists per game this campaign.
Things are bound to get, tougher, though, for the Pelicans as standing in their way in their next game are the red-hot Golden State Warriors. They have lost 19 of their last 20 games against the Warriors. The Pelicans can take comfort in the fact, however, that they kept the game close against the Warriors in their two meetings this season. The Pelicans covered the spread in both of those games, losing by an average of just nine points.
For New Orleans to record a major shock against the league leaders, it needs to get a huge performance from Anthony Davis. The big man struggled in the game against Phoenix, scoring just 14 points on a woeful 4-of-17 shooting from the field. If there’s one team, though, that can bring the best out of Davis, it’s got to be Golden State. He averaged 39.0 points and 15.0 rebounds in two meetings with the Warriors this season.
The Pelicans are 5-5 ATS in their last 10 home games.
