Betting on the Golden State Warriors
The Warriors still have a date Friday evening with Minnesota before they can fully focus their attention to their matchup with San Antonio. Whatever happens in the Timberwolves game, though, the Warriors’ meeting with the Spurs is going to be highly anticipated.
Golden State lost its season-opener to the Spurs back in Oct. 25, when San Antonio spoiled Kevin Durant’s debut in Warriors threads with a lopsided 129-100 victory at Oracle Arena. A lot has changed since that game but perhaps the most notable is the absence of Durant in tonight’s contest. Durant is still nursing an MCL sprain, leaving much of the offensive production responsibilities on the shoulders of Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. Curry scored 26 points in the October meeting with San Antonio, but shot 3-for-10 from beyond the arc, while Thompson went 1-for-6 on threes and finished with just 11 points.
Even with Durant’s absence and the recent tendency of the Splash Brothers to throw up bricks, the Warriors’ offense isn’t one to be underestimated. They are still tops in the NBA, as of this writing, with 117.0 points per game on 49.4 field goal shooting percentage.
The Warriors are 5-5 ATS in their last 10 games in San Antonio.
Betting on the San Antonio Spurs (50-14)
Like Manu Ginobili’s long locks, the Spurs’ nine-game win streak came to an end Thursday, as San Antonio lost a roadie to Brodie and company, 102-92, in Oklahoma City. They now fly back home to host the Warriors. The Spurs are 9-1 SU in their last 10 at home.
As usual, Kawhi Leonard led the team with 19 points but only had two rebounds and two assists. The Spurs were underwhelming in the loss, shooting just 41.7% from the floor and committing 14 turnovers, while also getting outrebounded by the Thunder, 48-40. All that will have to improve later tonight with Golden State coming to town. The Spurs are unlikely to rest any of their key players, considering that they’re still in the hunt for the No.1 seed in the western conference; they’re just two games behind of the Warriors atop the conference as of this writing.
Leonard and LaMarcus Aldridge were terrific in the first meeting with Golden State, combining for 61 points with Leonard going 15-for-15 at the free throw line. Apart from those two stars, the Spurs are counting on their bench to make a big difference. The Spurs are 10th in the league in bench scoring with 38.2 PPG, while the Warriors’ relievers put up just 30.2.d
