Betting on the Green Bay Packers (3-3-1)
The consistent narrative for the Packers this season is that so long as they have Aaron Rodgers, they have a shot at winning any game regardless which planet it’s played and against which group of aliens. Rodgers can’t do it alone, but he’s doing doing it alone better than anybody else in the league. In last week’s 29-27 loss road loss to the New England Patriots, Rodgers failed to extend his streak of 400 passing yards games, but was still okay with 286 passing yards and a touchdown with zero interceptions on 18-of-30 completions. Having said all of that, the Packers need to let loose another Aaron: Aaron Jones. Jones had 12 carries and 86 rushing yards and a score in the Rams game, and he could see more touches moving forward now that they team has already traded Ty Montgomery away to the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens are fifth in the league with 412.1 total yards per game, though, they’re only 13th in scoring offense with 25.0 points per contest.
The over is 8-2 in the Packers’ last 10 road games.
Betting on the New England Patriots (6-2)
Was there really any doubt that the Patriots would come away with a victory last week against the Buffalo Bills? Tom Brady didn’t connect for a touchdown, but had 324 passing yards with no interceptions on 29-of-45 passes in a smooth and easy 25-6 Patriots win over Buffalo on the road in Week 8. Brady has 2,200 passing yards on the season to go with 16 touchdowns with seven interceptions. He is a known quantity for the Pats. In other words, it’s the team’s defense that could be the telling factor in this matchup with Green Bay. Speaking of which, the Patriots’ stop unit rose to the occasion in the Bills game, as they forced two turnovers, including that fantastic pick-six by safety Devin McCourty. Of course, containing Derek Anderson and Nathan Peterman is a far easier assignment that slowing down someone like Aaron Rodgers, but the Patriots’ defensive job against the Buffalo has to be acknowledged.
The Patriots are 3-1 ATS in their last four home games.
Writer’s Prediction
New England wins, 33-28.
