Betting on the Houston Rockets (-2.5)
Houston took 50 shots from down town in Friday night’s 117-104 win at Sacramento, setting a new NBA record for most three-point attempts in a single game. The Rockets drained 21 threes in that game, with eight of which coming in the first period.
Trevor Ariza had a team-high six three-pointers, finishing with 18 points. James Harden, meanwhile, continued to do pretty much everything with 23 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists—his fourth triple-double of the season.
The Rockets are scoring nearly 108.5 points per game, the fifth-most in the league, and almost half of their points (41.4) have been coming from beyond the arc. Expect them to keep their three-point barrage going against a Portland defense that’s allowing 112.8 points this season. They also defeated the Blazers earlier this season in Houston, a game wherein the Rockets poured in 129 points and nailed 14 treys.
Houston is 6-4 SU and 8-2 ATS on the road this season.
Betting on the Portland Trail Blazers (+2.5)
After losing the previous two contests, the Trail Blazers got back on track versus the visiting Pelicans on Friday, 119-104.
Damian Lillard led the way, scoring 27 points to go along with his game-high of 11 assists. Backcourt mate C.J. McCollum contributed 24 points of his own and went 4-of-8 from beyond the arc. Portland has now put up 101 or more points in its last six games, despite going just 2-4 SU and ATS in that stretch.
Defense, however, has been the biggest concern for the Trail Blazers this season, and they are clearly in a precarious situation in tonight’s matchup with the Rockets, one of the top scoring teams in the league today. Portland can pile up the point as well—especially through its explosive backcourt duo—but it’s hard to see them win if the defense keeps giving up more than a hundred points. Plus, the Trail Blazers have yet to find an answer in stopping James Harden, who finished with a triple-double in their first meeting this season.
Writer’s Prediction
Portland (+2.5) wins this high-scoring affair, 123-119.
