The Texans are not in a great spot right now. There are serious questions about whether Deshaun Watson will still be able to play another snap for the team because of various issues. For this game against the Packers, at least, Houston will just have to hand the keys to the offense to veteran Tyrod Taylor, rookie Davis Mills, and Jeff Driskel. Mills is reportedly struggling in training camp, but the Texans can know more about him when they put him in a real-game setup. Also intriguing is the prospect of rookie wide receiver Nico Collins, who’s been getting nice reviews, so far. Collins could shine against Green Bay’s pass defense that was inconsistent in 2020. Collins had 1,388 receiving yards and 13 touches in three seasons with the Michigan Wolverines.
The under is 2-0 in the Texans’ last two preseason games.
Betting on the Green Bay Packers (-3)
Regular Season Record: 0-0
The Packers will have Aaron Rodgers for at least one more season. But don’t expect the baaad man to suit up and play this Saturday against the Texans. With Rodgers likely to sit this one out, the Packers will unleash Jordan Love to see how far he is in his readiness to become the next starter of Green Bay. Love should be able to outplay Mills, given his experience advantage and the seemingly more stable situation in Green Bay. This game will also be a nice test for rookie wide receiver Amari Rodgers. If he could put up at least a decent performance in these preseason games, he should be able to get the attention of Aaron Rodgers, who can always turn anyone into a solid receiver. Another rookie in cornerback Eric Stokes will get also a run against the Texans. Stokes must have picked up plenty of pointers in training camp by shadowing Davante Adams.
The Packers are 9-0 against the spread in their last nine preseason home games.
Writer’s Prediction
The Packers win, 26-16.
