How the PGA FedExCup Standings Work
Regular Season Points
The FedExCup awards points to golfers for each PGA Tour tournament they partake in during the regular season. The regular season’s cycle begins on October of the previous year to August of the current year.
Winners from each PGA Tour event will be rewarded somwhere between 250 to 600 FedExCup points depending on the size and quality of the field for a particular tournament. Golfers who fail to win at a tournament will still be awarded points of lesser value depending on their final position.
Playoff Qualifiers
The top 125 players who finish the regular season with the most FedExCup points are eligible to participate in the first of four playoff events. Those 125 golfers will also retain their tour cards for the following season of the PGA Tour.
The top 125 golfers will be awarded four times the amount of points during each playoff event compared to regular-season tournaments before them. The field of participants for each succeeding playoff event will be whittled down until only 30 golfers remain for the final event of the season: the TOUR Championship.
Here’s a breakdown of each of the four playoff tournaments:
1. The Northern Trust (top 125 FedExCup points leaders)
2. Dell Technologies Championship (top 100)
3. BMW Championship (top 70)
4. TOUR Championship (top 30)
End-of-Season Rewards
The golfer who finishes with the most FedExCup points after the PGA Tour season will be awarded $10 million along with a $35 million bonus fund. The runner-up in the final points standings will receive $3 million, the third-placer $2 million and so forth until all 150 golfers on the PGA Tour are awarded cash prizes of diminishing value from the top down. Those who place in 126th to 150th place for the season will still receive $32,000.
