Betting on the Indiana Hoosiers (+23)

Indiana had its two-game winning streak snapped on Saturday with a stinging 45-31 loss to Penn State. The Hoosiers had no answer for Saquon Barkley who rushed for 58 yards on 33 carries, including a game-changing two-yard touchdown run with 3:58 remaining. That triggered a late 17-0 Penn State run that all but ended Indiana’s upset bid in this match.

It’s back to the drawing board for head coach Kevin Wilson and the rest of the Hoosiers who will next face the Michigan Wolverines. Indiana have lost each of its last 15 meetings with Michigan. The Hoosiers will take comfort in the fact, however, that they almost shocked the Wolverines in their last showdown. Indiana pushed Michigan to the brink last year, losing 48-41 in a double-overtime thriller at Memorial Stadium.

For the Hoosiers to record a major shock and cover the huge 23-point spread against Michigan, they will need to quickly establish their ground game this coming Saturday. Expected to play a crucial role this weekend is running back Devin Redding. He rushed for 108 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the loss to Penn State. Redding will have his work cut out for him, however, against a Michigan side that is ranked 13th in the nation in rushing defense this campaign. The Wolverines are allowing just 113.1 yards per game on the ground this season.

Indiana is 2-2 SU and ATS on the road this season.

Betting on the Michigan Wolverines (-23)

Michigan’s playoff hopes were dealt a major blow on Saturday when it suffered a gut-wrenching 14-13 loss to Iowa at Kinnick Stadium. Freshman Keith Duncan kicked a 33-yard field goal as time expired to send the Wolverines crashing to their first defeat this season. It was a disappointing result for Michigan who entered the game as 24-point favorites. Head coach Jim Harbaugh can heave a huge sigh of relief, though, as that loss didn’t affect Michigan’s standing in the College Football Playoff picture that much. The Wolverines dropped just one spot to No. 3 in the CFP standings heading into the critical Week 12 games.

Next up for Michigan is a clash with Indiana. For the Wolverines to record the much-needed win, they will need to improve on their play on the offensive end. They managed just 230 total yards against the Hawkeyes in a cold and windy night in Iowa City. The Wolverines will hope that Michigan Stadium will provide the much-needed tonic for their struggling offense. They’re averaging a whopping 46 points at home this season. No wonder Michigan is unbeaten through its first seven home games.

One major concern for Harbaugh, though, heading into this weekend’s clash is Wilton Speight’s injury. The quarterback reportedly broke his collarbone during the fourth quarter of the Wolverines’ upset loss to the Hawkeyes. Speight has been a beast for the Wolverines this season, passing for 2,156 yards and 15 touchdowns.

With Speight likely sidelined, the onus is on John O’Korn to lead Michigan’s offense this coming weekend. He was in a competitive QB battle for the starting job back in August before eventually losing out to Speight. O’Korn was a sight to behold in his rookie season with Houston back in 2013, passing for 3,117 yards and 28 touchdowns. Michigan fans will hope that that version of O’Korn will show up for the Wolverines in the game against Indiana.

Michigan is 8-0 SU and 4-4 ATS in its last eight home games against Indiana. The Wolverines are pegged at +1,200 to win the national championship this season.

Writer’s Prediction

Michigan (-23) eases past Indiana, 38-10.
