Betting on the Indiana Hoosiers (16-13, 6-10 Big Ten)

Point Spread: +11

Saturday night, the struggling Hoosiers – 6-11 in their last 17 (SU and ATS) – snapped their five-game losing streak in style. They trailed Northwestern by five with only 45 seconds left, but thanks to Big Ten threes leader James Blackmon swishing a timely trey and Thomas Bryant successfully converting an and-one play, they escaped with a 63-62 victory.

Indiana previously met with Purdue last February 9th, where they fell, 69-64. Bryant, who’s putting up 13.1 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks this season, was alone for the most part, as he was the only Hoosier to shoot and score well – 8-for-12 for a team-high 23 points. His two partners in scoring, Blackmon (16.9 PPG) and Robert Johnson (13.1 PPG), went for a combined 5-for-25 from the field.

The Hoosiers were averaging 88.8 points on 51.9 percent shooting in their first 12 games, but since then, they are only able to score 73.9 points and shoot 44.8 percent. Additionally, their inconsistent defense (95th in efficiency) are resulting in them being currently dead-last in the conference in points allowed (76.6 PPG) and blocks (4.8 BPG).

Betting on the Purdue Boilermakers (23-6, 12-4 Big Ten)

Point Spread: -11

The Boilermakers got their six-game winning streak halted on Saturday. They allowed the Wolverines to shoot 54.5 percent from the field and had no answers for Derrick Walton and Moritz Wagner, who almost outscored all of Purdue’s starters combined. The 82-70 loss was also their worst defeat all season.

As Purdue looks to return to the winning column, Caleb Swanigan is obviously the guy to watch out for. The sophomore has arguably been the best big men in the Big Ten this year, averaging 18.6 points, 12.8 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game.

Swanigan filled up the stat sheet in their aforementioned win over the Hoosiers weeks back, with 16 points, 14 rebounds, and three assists, while Vince Edwards contributed a career-high-tying 26 points. The two should be able to have a repeat performance this coming Tuesday, with efficient big man Isaac Haas joining them – Haas is posting 13.2 points and 5.4 rebounds in just 20.6 minutes of action.

Purdue leads their conference in scoring (77.7 PPG), assists (17 APG), and three-point shooting (40.8 percent), and they are also 15th overall in Kenpom.com’s defensive efficiency rankings.

The Boilermakers have won six straight games at home (6-0 ATS).

Writer’s Prediction
