Betting on the Indiana Hoosiers (odds)
Record: 5-1 Overall / 5-1 Conference
The Hoosiers recovered from their loss to the Ohio State Buckeyes on Nov. 21, as they folded the Maryland Terrapins in a 27-11 home win over the weekend. Michael Penix Jr. passed for nearly 500 yards to go with five touchdowns against just an interception on 27-of-51 completions. Indiana might have to rely on a pass-heavy attack again against Wisconsin, which owns a tough run defense. Indiana is averaging 32.8 points per game on the strength of a passing attack that’s generating 279.3 passing yards per contest. Penix’s pass protection has been solid this season, as he’s only been sacked seven times to date. Indiana’s offense has also produced at least 400 total yards in each of their last four games. On defense, Indiana’s making a killing on forcing turnovers. Hoosiers opponents are averaging 3.0 giveaways per game this season – second-highest nationally.
Indiana is 7-0 in its last seven games overall.
Betting on the Wisconsin Badgers (odds)
Record: 2-1 Overall / 2-1 Conference
Badgers fans have every reason to feel frustrated after Wisconsin’s scheduled game against the Minnesota Golden Gophers last weekend got canceled, as it meant elimination for the Badgers from contention for the Big Ten title. But the Badgers will just have to move on and look to vent their disappointment on Indiana. Wisconsin lost its latest game to the Northwestern Wildcats on the road on Nov. 21, 17-7, as the Badgers’ offense could barely do anything meaningful. But the defense was solid, and they will look to ride their stop unit against the Hoosiers. On the season, Wisconsin is second in the nation with just 11.2 points allowed per game and tops with 233.3 total yards surrendered per contest. Wisconsin has yet to allow a rushing touchdown this season. Containing Penix will be the key to success for Wisconsin along with ball security. Quarterback Graham Mertz got intercepted three times in the Northwestern game and also had one of the Badgers’ two lost fumbles.
Wisconsin is 5-2 against the spread in its last seven games as the home team.
Writer’s Prediction
Indiana wins, 24-17.
