Indianapolis Colts vs Houston Texans Predictions, Picks, Odds and Betting Preview – NFL Week 9 2017

This is the 31st regular-season meeting between the Colts and the Texans. Indianapolis leads the series by a total of 23-7. However, the Texans have won the last three games, giving them a bit of bragging rights if recent history has any impact on current events. Home advantage plays somewhat into this match-up, as the Colts are 13-2 at home vs the Texans while going 10-5 in Houston. With a 13-point spread, the Texans may indeed give bettors the points they need for a solid payday.

Betting on the Indianapolis Colts (2-6)

Point Spread: (+13)

The Indianapolis Colts are looking to turn their season around. Currently riding a three game losing streak, the Colts find themselves in an almost must win. All Pro quarterback Andrew Luck has been out of the starting lineup all season long. Backup Jacoby Brissett has done what he can in Lucks’s absence. Since taking over the starting role at the beginning of the year, Brissett has passed for 1642 yards for five touchdowns and four interceptions.

Last week, Brissett was 25 of 39 for 233 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in the loss. Colts receiver Jack Doyle had 12 receptions for 121 yards and one touchdown in the one point loss. This week, expect Brissett to have his hands full against the Texans pass rush. Even though Houston is without JJ Watt, the defensive line is still extremely talented.

On defense, the Colts are the worst team in the league in points allowed (30.8) and are allowing over 418 yards per game. The Colts secondary is arguably the worst in the NFL. The Colts are allowing 302 passing yards per game this year. Last week, the Colts allowed just 276 total yards for the game, but allowed 24 points in the road loss. The Colts have lost three straight, but played a lot better last week on the road, despite the loss. This season is going to continue to be a struggle for the Colts. Especially without Luck the rest of the year.

Betting on the Houston Texans (3-4)

Point Spread: (-13)

The Houston Texans are sitting in third place in the division. With the recent play of Deshawn Watson, the Texas have a bright future ahead. Watson did all he could last week in Seattle against the Seahawks and arguably the best secondary in the NFL in Seattle’s “Legion of Boom”. Losing 41-38.

Watson was 19 of 30 for 402 passing yards and four touchdowns, but threw three interceptions, which cost them the game. This week, Watson will need to tone down on the turnovers. The Colts defense is nothing to lose sleep over, but should not be overlooked.

On defense, the line is a little banged up, but than should not stop them from applying pressure against Brissett and friends this week. Look for the Texans defense to blitz the inexperience Brissett this week at home. The unit should allow less than 325 yards in this one.

Writer’s Prediction:

The crowd should be jumping tonight against the Colts. The Texans will be confident in winning at home. The Colts are 0-4 on the year in road games. A Jacoby Brissett and Frank Gore featured offense is not going to get in done this year in the NFL for the Colts. Pick: Texans (-13)
