Betting on the Indianapolis Colts (+1.5)
Regular Season Record: 0-3
Things did not go Indianapolis’ way once again in Week 3, as they remain winless following a 25-16 road loss to divisional rival Tennessee Titans. Carson Wentz passed for 194 yards with zero touchdowns and no interceptions on 19/37 completions. The team in fact did not turn the ball over the whole time against the Titans. The Colts simply could not consistently put together meaningful drives, as they went 1-of-3 in the red zone. That could change for the better in Week 4 against Miami’s defense that’s just 19th in the NFL in opponents’ red-zone touchdown scoring percentage (66.67). This could also be a time to shine for running back Jonathan Taylor after rushing for only 64 yards, albeit on just 10 carries, against Tennessee. Miami’s run defense has been soft, as it’s allowing 136.0 rushing yards per game, so far this season.
The Colts are 5-2 against the spread in their last seven games on the road.
Betting on the Miami Dolphins (-1.5)
Regular Season Record: 1-2
Jacoby Brissett will continue to start for the Dolphins until Tua Tagovailoa returns from injury. In his first start of the season, Brissett went 32/49 for 215 yards with zero touchdowns and no interceptions. There was just not enough aggression on his part to push the ball downfield with his arm despite deep threats like Jaylen Waddle and DeVante Parker. He can definitely try a more aggressive approach against the Colts’ pass defense that is only 28th in the NFL in yards allowed per pass (8.7). The Colts are also giving up 233.0 passing yards per contest, good for just 12th in the NFL. Speaking of defense, Miami’s pass rush will be key against the Colts, with Wentz likely not yet fully recovered from his ankle injuries by the time Week 4 rolls around. Miami’s defense is still showing a glimpse of its brilliance back in the 2020 NFL season, as it is currently averaging 1.7 forced turnovers per game.
The Dolphins are 6-1 against the spread in their last seven home games
Writer’s Prediction
The Colts win, 22-19.
