Betting on the Iowa Hawkeyes (7-2)

[sc:NCAAB240banner ] The Iowa Hawkeyes have looked really good thus far this season, opening 7-2 overall and are currently on a four-game winning streak. The Hawkeyes will try to stretch their unbeaten run further when they pay a very familiar foe in the Iowa State Cyclones a visit at James H. Hilton Coliseum this evening.

In their most recent outing, the Hawkeyes imposed their dominance against Western Illinois with a final score of 90-56. In that game, Jarrod Uthoff, their top scorer (18.2 PPG), reminded fans just how good he can be when he’s aggressive. The senior forward finished with a game-high of 27 points and nine rebounds under his name. Uthoff’s been one of the main reasons why Iowa’s offense ranks 30th in the nation in scoring average (83.8).

However, Uthoff alone won’t be enough to get them the win. He’ll need some help on offense and the pair of Peter Jok and Adam Woodbury can exactly do just that. The two are posting 22.1 points per game combined this year.

Meanwhile, ball movement has also been a huge key to the Hawkeye’s recent success. They are averaging an impressive 19.6 APG. Their floor general Anthony Clemmons (8.6 PPG and 4.4 APG) has done a magnificent job in directing Fran McCaffery’s up-tempo style of play.

As for the defense, the Hawkeyes are going to have their work cut out for them opposite a Cyclones team that’s overloaded with offensive options. Their defense (67.2 points allowed per game) will barely have any room for mistakes in this one.

Iowa is 4-1 SU and 2-2 ATS in its last five games.

Betting on the Iowa State Cyclones (7-0)

Iowa vs Iowa State Basketball Predictions, Picks, Odds and Preview

Everything’s gone according to plan for the Iowa State Cyclones thus far as new head coach Steve Prohm has been able to guide them to a 7-0 start this season. In that stretch, they’ve beaten their opponents by an average margin of 20.3 points. Now, the Cyclones will try to stay hot against their in-state rivals in the Iowa Hawkeyes.

The Cyclones’ offense, that’s posting 86.9 PPG (8th in the nation), explains why they’re still undefeated. Their starting five of Georges Niang (18.6), Monte Morris (14.9), Abdel Nader (14.6), Jameel McKay (13.9) and Nazareth Mitrou-Long (12.9) are all scoring in double figures this season.

Furthermore, they haven’t fallen short on the other side of the hardwood either. Iowa State has forced its opponents to commit at least 13.7 turnovers per game and score just 66.6 points across seven games.

But no matter how good the Cyclones have been, they can’t afford to be overconfident against the Hawkeyes, who have enough offensive weapons to match them. They’ll surely have their hands full in trying to stop the solid one-two punch of Jarred Uthoff (18.2 PPG) and Peter Jok (12.9 PPG) from finding their comfort zones.

Iowa State is 7-3 SU and 5-5 ATS in its previous 10 meetings with the Hawkeyes.

Writer’s Prediction
