Betting on the Kansas City Chiefs
The number seven has got to be haunting the Kansas City Chiefs. The 31-24 loss to the Denver Broncos marked the team’s seventh-straight loss to its division rival from the Rockies, which also happened to be a seven-point margin punctuated by Kansas City’s 0-for-7 night on third-down.
[sc:NFL240banner ]What made the loss to Denver hurt even more was that all the Chiefs had to do was run the ball to send the game into overtime, only for Jamaal Charles to cough up the ball on a routine running play to give Denver the game-winning returned fumble for a touchdown with 27 seconds left in the contest.
Charles actually had a solid game on the ground for the Chiefs (125 yards and a TD on 21 carries), but his pair of fumbles proved to be too costly in the loss to Denver, all the more that last one. Still, Kansas City has got to continue to lean on its trusty workhorse in Week 3 against the Packers, especially with Alex Smith going back to his “game manager” tendencies.
Smith was rattled by the Broncos’ stifling secondary; he threw two picks, no touchdowns and converted just 16 of his 25 passes for 191 yards on Thursday night. It also didn’t help that Kansas City’s offensive line allowed Denver’s front seven to sack Smith four times in that game.
For the Chiefs to have a chance to win in Green Bay, the team has got to force more turnovers instead of creating them. Kansas City had a whopping five turnovers in the loss to the Broncos, while the team caused two fumbles (one recovered) and one pick in the opening week win over the Texans.
The Chiefs are 3-4 both straight up and ATS in their past seven road games.

Betting on the Green Bay Packers
There was no need for a dramatic or controversial finish in the latest contemptuous clash between the Seahawks and the Packers, as Green Bay pulled away with a 27-17 win over Seattle this Sunday night.
In spite of losing prolific running back Eddie Lacy to a right ankle injury early in the first quarter, Aaron Rodgers made sure that his Packers will not fall to the defending NFC champs in questionable fashion once again.
Rodgers was efficient to say the least with his 25-for-33 outing for 249 passing yards and two touchdowns. He also made the most out of his under-the-radar players with key plays late in the fourth quarter coming from rookie wideout Ty Montgomery and second-year tight end Richard Rodgers, who was a recipient of one of Rodgers’ two TD passes for the day.
And speaking of under-the-radar, six-year veteran James Starks actually put up solid yardage on the ground in place of the injured Lacy. Starks’ 20 carries for 95 yards helped Green Bay temper Seattle’s time of possession, and he should be of great aid next Monday night should Lacy not be able to “lace” up come game time.
The Packers are well-equipped to counter everything the Chiefs will throw their way. Green Bay’s run defense was superb this past Sunday night by limiting Marshawn Lynch to just 41 yards on the ground, and this could spell trouble for Jamaal Charles and run-heavy Kansas City. And should the game go down the wire, expect the 2014 regular season MVP to come to the rescue. Rodgers was a perfect 9-for-9 for 91 yards in the fourth quarter (including the go-ahead touchdown) to seal the win over the Seahawks.
Green Bay has even gone undefeated in its past ten games in Lambeau, going 7-2-1 against the spread in that span.
Writer’s Prediction
The Packers (-7) lay the Chiefs to waste, 34-16.
