Betting on the Kansas City Chiefs (2-0)
The Kansas City Chiefs are really spicing things up early. Kareem Hunt is without a doubt the most popular name in the NFL through two weeks with his five touchdowns in two games, while Alex Smith is also putting his name in marquee lights. Smith, thus far, is second in the league connecting on 77.8% of his passes and second as well with his five touchdowns. Hunt, on the hand, has been nothing short of sensational for the dinged up Chiefs. Losing Spencer Ware in the preseason was a tough one, but the rookie Hunt has taken the challenge and run with it (no pun intended).
Through a pair of games, the rook has 229 yards rushing, 136 yards receiving and five total TD’s for KC. It hasn’t been all offense all the time though for the Chiefs. Their defense deserves some credit as well. They’re currently second in the league with 9 sacks and tied for fourth with one pick. They won’t have to be at their finest in this one either. The Chargers through two games have shown that they won’t pose too much of a threat.
Betting on the Los Angeles Chargers (0-2)
Los Angeles has lost both their games via missed field goals. One was blocked in their opener against Denver. The other, last week, sailed wide from inside 50 yards. Younghoe Koo, their rookie kicker, has got to be pretty upset with his current club. Sure he’s missed the kicks, but he shouldn’t have been in that situation in the first place – last week especially. The Charger defense couldn’t stop Jay Cutler or the run game maestroed by Jay Ajayi and ended the day with zero turnovers. Believe it or not, they were even worse the week before against Denver!
However, with all of that said, they are due for a bounce back game and this could be it. The Chargers always play better against divisional opponents and this game could be their breakthrough performance. They know if they fall behind in the stacked AFC West with 0-3 record, there’ll likely be no climbing out of that hole. Sure, it’s early, but this could be the biggest game of the year for the San Diego…errrr…Los Angeles Chargers.
Expect one heck of an effort from Phillip Rivers and co.
Writer’s Prediction
Chargers (+3.5) cover the spread but lose 24-22.
