Betting on the Kansas Jayhawks (20-3 Overall / 9-1 Conference)
The Jayhawks kept their hot streak going, with a 60-49 win in Fort Worth over the TCU Horned Frogs last Saturday. The inside-outside tandem of Udoka Azubuike and Devon Dotson did the most damage on the floor for Kansas, which will carry an eight-game unbeaten run into its rematch against West Virginia. Azubuike dominated in the paint against TCU, finshing with a double-double effort of 20 points and 15 rebounds, while Dotson had 18 points and 11 dimes. Azubuike also had himself a game in the Jayhawks’ 60-53 home win over West Virginia last month in which he scored 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, while also going 6 of 6 from the field. Dotson, on the other hand, had 16 points and four assists. Kansas shot just 40.4 percent from the field in that game, but they could capitalize on West Virginia’s defense that has been inconsistent of late.
The Jayhawks are 6-4 against the spread (ATS) in their last 10 games overall.
Betting on the West Virginia Mountaineers (18-5 Overall / 6-4 Conference)
Rebounding is a major strength of West Virginia this season, but that didn’t help them a lot in 69-59 loss in Norman to the Oklahoma Sooners last Saturday. The Sooners even outrebounded West Virginia, 42-41. But the bigger issue for the Mountaineers in that game was their offense. They shot just 31.6 percent from the field, unable to convert plenty of offensive rebounds into points. They had 21 offensive rebounds to just nine by Oklahoma. When they lost to Kansas, the Mountaineers also had a 21-9 offensive rebounding advantage but shot only 32.2 percent from the field. Forward Oscar Tshiebwe had 17 points and 17 rebounds against Kansas. He’s a great matchup for Azubuike, but needs help from others. He was the only starter who scored in double digits in the Kansas game.
The under is 3-0 in the Mountaineers’ last three games.
