Betting on the Kansas Jayhawks (8-9 Overall / 0-5 Conference)
The Jayhawks seem to have completely recovered from a road loss to the Iowa State Cyclones on Jan. 5, as they have stitched together a 3-0 SU record since. Kansas also covered the spread in two of those games, only failing to cover it in last Monday’s 80-78 home win over the visiting Texas Longhorns. With big man Udoka Azubuike ruled out for the rest of the season due to an injury, the Jayhawks have become dependent on their backcourt and wing players. Fortunately for them, senior hotshot Lagerald Vick has been shooting the lights out of late. Vick had 21 points and five 3-pointers in the win over Texas. He has averaged 17.0 points in his last three games with 13 3-pointers made over that stretch.
Kansas, which is 51st in the nation with 78.8 points per game, is 3-0 against the spread (ATS) in its last three games against the Mountaineers.
Betting on the West Virginia Mountaineers (8-9 Overall / 0-5 Conference)
West Virginia is on an uncontrolled tailspin. The Mountaineers have lost all of their first five games of conference play, a stretch that includes their embarrassing 96-67 road loss to the TCU Horned Frogs on Tuesday. Although they have gone winless in five games, at least they were able to cover the spread in three of those. The Mountaineers shot horribly against TCU, going 23-for-60 from the field for a 38.3 field goal shooting percentage. At least, there’s still a bright spot for the Mountaineers, and that’s the play of junior guard James Bolden, who has been feasting of late. Bolden dropped 31 points in the loss to Oklahoma State at home last Saturday and followed that performance with a 15-point outing against TCU. Someone has to step up other than Bolden, especially with leading scorer Sagaba Konate sidelined with a knee injury.
The Mountaineers are 5-1 ATS in their last five home games against Kansas dating back to 2013.
