Kansas State’s stout defense was no match against the Jayhawks, as Kansas buried nine three-pointers and shot 45.7 percent from the field overall. Still, KSU’s defense is not one to be underestimated. It is allowing just 66.8 points per game, and even forcing West Virginia to commit 18 turnovers, albeit in a 77-69 home loss on Jan. 1. On offense, the Wildcats are averaging 75.4 points per game. Forward Dean Wade scored 20 points in the first meeting with the Mountaineers.

The Mountaineers have been inconsistent lately, even when they’re playing at home. They went 2-2 SU and 1-3 ATS in their last four games in Morgantown. That said, they are 8-2 SU in their last 10 in their own coliseum overall. Despite a bad shooting night from their star player Jevon Carter in the previous matchup with Kansas State, the Mountaineers were still able to shoot 53.6 percent from the field. Carter went just 1-for-7 from the floor that day, but he is expected to do better in the rematch simply because a great player like Carter (17.3 PPG) is unlikely to suffer another salty shooting night against the same team. In his last game at home, Carter erupted for 26 points in an 83-76 loss to Kentucky last Saturday. Also key for West Virginia is its pesky defense that limits foes to just 66.6 points per game. Kansas State definitely felt the Mountaineers’ choking defense, as the Wildcats shot just 35.7 percent in the first meeting. West Virginia also won the rebounding battle in that game, 38-27.
