Betting on the Kent State Golden Flashes (+28)
Record: 0-0 Overall / 0-0 Conference
The Golden Flashes had a high-octane offense in 2020. In fact, they were the highest-scoring team in the nation that year, as Kent State put up an average of 49.8 points per game to go with 606.5 total yards per contest. Who’s to say the school can’t do that again this year with the Golden Flashes bringing almost the whole band back on offense? quarterback Dustin Crum returns for his senior season along with fellow 2020 starters in running back Marquez Cooper and wide receivers Dante Cephas and Ja’shaun Poke Jr. Crum passed for 1,181 passing yards and 12 touchdowns with only two interceptions in four games last season.
Kent State is 7-3 against the spread in its last 10 games overall. The Golden Flashes have also seen the total hit the over in seven of those contests.
Betting on the Texas A&M Aggies (-28)
Record: 0-0 Overall / 0-0 Conference
Texas A&M saw Kellen Mond depart for the NFL over the offseason, and his role as the Aggies’ starting quarterback has been inherited by Haynes King. A challenge for the Aggies early his season is to get the offensive line that has plenty of new faces on the same page. It may not happen right away, but the Golden Flashes don’t seem to have the defense to intimidate Texas A&M. As good as Kent State was on offense in 2020, its defense was absolutely porous. It allowed 38.0 points and 424.0 total yards per game last season. Still on offense, running back Isaiah Spiller could be a nightmare for Kent State that gave up 262.0 rushing yards per game a season ago. Spiller is regarded as among the country’s best tailbacks, who can also deal damage during passing plays.
Texas A&M is 6-4 against the spread in its last 10 games. The under is 4-2 in the Aggies’ last six outings.
Writer’s Prediction
Texas A&M wins, 49-17.
