Betting on the Kentucky Wildcat (odds)
Record: 15-3 Overall/5-1 Conference
Kentucky collected another win Wednesday by defeating the Texas A&M Aggies on the road, 64-58. The Wildcats showed what they could do on defense in that game, as they limited Texas A&M to only 29.4 percent shooting from the field and to a horrible 1/22 shooting from behind the arc. The Wildcats also did not shoot well, but their defense kept their heads above water, showing that they can win games even when their shots aren’t falling. On the season, the Wildcats are sixth in the nation with 84.0 points per game and third with a 50.5 percent shooting from the field. In terms of advanced stats, Kentucky is fourth with 119.5 points per 100 possessions. Big man Oscar Tshiebwe is a force whenever he’s on the floor, particularly because of his rebounding, as he is the no. 1 player in Division I basketball in both offensive and defensive rebounding rates.
Kentucky is 6-4 against the spread in its last 10 games overall.
Betting on the Auburn Tigers (odds)
Record: 16-1 Overall/5-0 Conference Conference
Auburn extended their incredible win streak to 14 games after crushing the Georgia Bulldogs at home on Wednesday, 83-60. Walker Kessler had a field day in that game on both ends of the floor, as he ended up with 15 points and six blocks. Rim protection has been a specialty of the Tigers. They entered the Georgia game ranked first in the nation in blocks per game (8.2) and in block rate (11.6%). Kessler should make life harder for Tshiebwe inside, as the 7-1 Auburn center is no. 1 in the nation in block rate (20.3%). But Auburn isn’t too shabby on offense, either. The Tigers are 16th nationally in adjusted offensive efficiency (115.9) and 12th with 80.6 points per outing.
Auburn, which is also 29th with 39.1 rebounds per contest, is 4-1 against the spread in its last five games against the Wildcats, dating back to 2019.
Writer’s Prediction
Auburn wins, 75-73.
