Betting on the Las Vegas Raiders (+3)
Regular Season Record: 3-0
The Raiders are on a roll, having won all of their first three games of the season. They made sure their slate remains clean after defeating the Miami Dolphins at home in Week 3, 31-28. The game went to overtime, but Las Vegas had to come back from 14 points down in the first period. Derek Carr went 26/43 for 386 passing yards and two touchdowns with an interception. Las Vegas missed the services of running back Josh Jacobs in that game because of an injury that could keep him from playing again this coming Monday. Jacobs is currently questionable, though the Raiders can look for Peyton Barber to supply most of the yards on the ground. Barber had 111 rushing yards and a touchdown on 23 carries in Week 3. Whether it’s Jacobs or Barber who’ll carry the rock as the RB1 on Sunday, the Raiders should be able to pick up lots of rushing yards against the Chargers, who have the worst run defense in the NFL, entering Week 4.
The Raiders are 4-0 against the spread in their last four games on a Monday.
Betting on the Los Angeles Chargers (-3)
Regular Season Record: 2-1
Justin Herbert continues to be the real deal for the Chargers. The former Oregon Ducks quarterback passed for 281 yards and four touchdowns without an interception on 26/38 completions in their huge 30-24 road win over the defending AFC champions Kansas City Chiefs last Sunday. Los Angeles’ offense is also enjoying Mike Williams’ incredible start to the season. Williams has 295 receiving yards and four touchdowns on 22 receptions, through three games. The Chargers are currently 19th in the NFL with 22.3 points per game but are ninth with 394.7 total yards per contest. They are having a bit of trouble scoring touchdowns when in the red zone, but that might not be much of a problem against the Raiders, who are 30th in the league in opponents’ red zone touchdown scoring percentage. Defensively, the Chargers have the chops to slow down Las Vegas. After all, they just forced Kansas City to commit four turnovers.
The Chargers are 4-0 against the spread in their last four games versus AFC West teams.
Writer’s Prediction
