Betting on the Los Angeles Angels (49-54)
The Los Angeles Angels have dropped into an even bigger hole after they were swept in three games by the Cleveland Indians. They’re now five games below .500 for the first time all year.
But if the Angels could have anyone take the mound with the hope of snapping their current losing skid, they’d probably pick Parker Bridwell. The 25-year-old is having a strong rookie campaign, and is having his best month of the season in July. He’s got a 1.86 ERA through his three starts this month. He’s coming off another fine outing last time out as he gave up two earned runs in a season-high seven innings.
Bridwell has been the Angels’ good luck charm this season. They’ve gone 6-1 in his seven starts, and a perfect 3-0 on the road. Bridwell has a 2.04 ERA in those three road starts, with a .206 batting average against.
Betting on the Toronto Blue Jays (48-54)
After getting swept by the Cleveland Indians, the Toronto Blue Jays responded strongly with a four-game sweep of the struggling Oakland Athletics. That’s the Jays’ first series sweep since taking three in row from the Reds at the end of May. They will be looking to extend their win streak to a season-high five games as they send J.A. Happ to the mound.
However, Happ has not had the best of luck in recent starts. He’s coming off his worst outing of the season in his most recent start as he gave up seven earned runs in six innings against the Cleveland Indians. Happ pitched pretty well in his previous five starts, as he had a very strong 2.57 ERA. But the Jays still went just 1-4 in those five games.
Happ also hasn’t been feeling at home at Rogers Centre all year. He’s 1-4 with a 4.20 ERA and a .302 batting average against in six starts this season.
Writer’s Prediction
Bridwell brings the Angels another win as he beats Happ and the Blue Jays.
