Betting on the Los Angeles Chargers (-3)
Regular Season Record: 9-7
The Chargers rebounded from back-to-back losses to the Kansas City Chiefs and to the Houston Texans with a dominant 34-13 home win over the Denver Broncos. Justin Herbert finished with 237 passing yards and two touchdowns with zero interceptions on 22/31 completions. Herbert is still one of the most effective quarterbacks in the NFL, and in his arm, the Chargers will rely upon anew in Week 18. When the Chargers defeated Las Vegas at home in Week 4, 28-14, Herbert went 25/38 for 222 passing yards and three touchdowns while avoiding a pick. Austin Ekeler also roasted the Raiders’ defense for 117 rushing yards and a touchdown on 15 carries. So far this season, the Chargers are sixth in the NFL with 27.6 points per game on the strength of a robust passing attack and solid pass protection.
The Chargers are 7-2-1 against the spread in their last 10 games in January.
Betting on the Las Vegas Raiders (+3)
Regular Season Record: 9-7
The Raiders are winding down the regular season nicely. They have put themselves in a position to score a playoff berth with a three-game win streak, which they will look to extend in Week 18 in the rematch with the Chargers. The last time the Raiders saw action, they defeated the Indianapolis Colts on the road, 23-20. Hunter Renfrow continues to be productive for the Raiders. The former Clemson Tigers star had 76 receiving yards and a touchdown on seven catches against the Colts, while Zay Jones led the team with 120 receiving yards on eight catches. The Raiders could also get a boost in Week 18 with the potential return of tight end Darren Waller from a long absence. Waller is questionable, as of the moment, but the team is reportedly anticipating for him to make an appearance on Sunday. He had 50 receiving yards and a touchdown on four catches in the first meeting with the Chargers.
The Raiders are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games after allowing fewer than 150 passing yards in their previous outing.
Writer’s Prediction
The Chargers win, 27-20.
