Los Angeles Chargers vs New England Patriots Predictions, Picks, Odds and Betting Preview – NFL Week 8 2017

The New England Patriots are looking to extend their winning streak when they host the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday in Week 8. While the Patriots are solid home favorites, the Chargers 3-4 record on it’s own does not speak to their current success, having won their last three games in a row, putting the start of their season in the rear view. Defense has been the key to recent victory for both teams thus far, so it will be up to the offense to come through (with all else equal).

TV Broadcast: NBC

Betting on the Los Angeles Chargers (3-4)

Point Spread: (+7.5)

The Los Angeles Chargers are winners of three in a row. Last beating AFC West division rival Denver, 21-0. The Chargers offense has been flowing a lot better the last three weeks. Winning two tough road games before last weeks win. At the Giants and at Oakland are solid wins.

Philip Rivers has continued to pace the Chargers. Seems like he has had the job forever. Rivers has guided the Los Angeles offense this season with 1816 yards passing 12 touchdowns and a low, five picks on the year. Rivers had 162 yards passing and two touchdowns last week against the Broncos stout defense.

Look for Rivers to get the passing attack on point this week against the Patriots terrible secondary. On the defensive side of things for Los Angeles, the Chargers have one of the best secondaries in the NFL. the Chargers pass defense is allowing 207 yards per game this year. Defensive end Joey Bosa has been lights out this year for the Chargers rush defense. He has 7.5 sacks on the year.

With how talented and underrated the Chargers defense is, the Patriots offense could have their hands full. The Chargers pass rush is not joke either. Tom Brady will be under pressure in this matchup.

Betting on the New England Patriots (5-2)

Point Spread: (-7.5)

The New England Patriots are 5-2. It seems like just three weeks ago, the media was wondering if Brady and the boys still had what it takes. After three straight wins, obviously the Patriots have it under control. Tom Brady has led the New England offense as good as he ever has this season. Touchdown Tom has thrown for 2208 yards, 15 touchdowns and two interceptions on the year.

In last weeks win, Brady threw for 249 yards and two touchdowns on 21 of 29 passing and no interceptions. Running back Dion Lewis looked like the X factor. He has 13 carries for 76 against the Falcons in the 23-7 win. On defense, the Patriots still have arguably the worst pass defense in the NFL. The Patriots are allowing 323 yards passing and 439 total yards of offense per game this year. The Patriots secondary better be prepared in this matchup. Phillip Rivers could be an issue for New England this week.

Writer’s Prediction:

Philip Rivers has not had to pass for 400 yards be game to get wins this year. Instead, he has a defense to help him secure wins. The Patriots will get it done, but won’t cover at home. Pick: Chargers (+7.5)
