Betting on the Los Angeles Clippers (30-16)
Point Spread: -1.5
LA rebounded nicely on Monday night without Chris Paul or Blake Griffin, getting the 115-105 road victory against the Hawks.
Austin Rivers and Jamal Crawford led the way with 27 and 19 points, respectively, while three of their teammates also scored in double figures. Overall, the Clips shot 50.0 percent from the floor and were especially hot from down town, where they went 14-for-24.
Rivers had a game-high five threes, and has now tallied 20 or more points in his last three games. He’ll need to continue stepping up until Paul comes back. Speaking of which, the Clips are expected to welcome back Griffin into the lineup tonight against the Sixers, whom they’ve beaten nine-consecutive times (8-1 ATS).
Griffin’s return should provide a big lift on offense, unless he can’t shake off the rust quickly. The Oklahoma product leads the Clips in scoring this season with 21.2 per game.
Betting on the Philadelphia 76ers (15-27)
Point Spread: +1.5
Make no mistake about it: Joel Embiid is the reason why the Sixers are relevant again.
Embiid is averaging team-highs of 19.8 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.5 blocks this season despite having a 28-minute playing time restriction. He’s led Philadelphia to a 7-3 record since the start of the New Year, including wins versus playoff contenders like Charlotte, Toronto and Milwaukee.
Ersan Ilyasova and Robert Covington’s recent performances have been worth noting, too. The former is racking up 17.4 points in January, while Covington has scored in double digits in the last four games.
However, tonight will arguably be the Sixers’ toughest assignment this month. They face off against a Chris Paul-less Clippers team that’s won nine-straight games over them. Philadelphia’s going to need muster everything it has on both sides of the floor to get the upset here.
The Sixers are 5-0 SU and ATS in their previous 10 home games.
Writer’s Prediction
Clippers (-1.5) win it, 106-101.
