Regular Season Record: 37-28
With a sense of great urgency, the Lakers snapped their three-game skid and defeated the Denver Nuggets at home last Monday, 93-89. The Lakers did not have LeBron James in that game due to an ankle problem and also missed the services of Dennis Schroder because of a COVID-19-related protocol issue. In their absence, the Lakers relied on Anthony Davis, who answered the call, scoring 25 points to lead Los Angeles. Meanwhile, Marc Gasol provided an excellent performance off the bench with 10 points and 7 rebounds. James and Schroder are both ruled out for this rematch against the Clippers, but the win against Denver must have re-energized this team. With Davis available, the Lakers have a go-to guy on offense and an excellent defender down low who can work alongside Andre Drummond in dominating the Clippers’ slimmer frontline. Davis had 18 points in the loss to the Clippers on Opening Day.
The Lakers are 4-3 against the spread in their last 7 games after 2-3 days of rest.
Betting on the LA Clippers (-7.5)
Regular Season Record: 44-22
The Clippers also got out of a losing skid by defeating the Toronto Raptors at home on Tuesday, 105-100. Paul George and Marcus Morris Sr. led the team with 22 points each, while Reggie Jackson chipped in 18 more. Kawhi Leonard was held to only 13 points, though he only took six shots. He admittedly got bothered by Toronto’s defense but he knew he could trust his teammates to deliver. Leonard, however, didn’t have much problem scoring when the Clippers defeated the Lakers earlier this season. He had 26 points on 10-of-26 shooting from the field, while George had 33 points on 13-of-18 shooting. These two can definitely shine in this rematch versus the Lakers, especially since there’s no LeBron James to deal with when the Clippers are on defense. They can conserve their energy on defense and be more efficient offensively. The Clippers are averaging 114.3 points per game.
The under is 9-1 in the Clippers’ last 10 games.
Writer’s Prediction
The Lakers win, 114-110.
