Betting on the Los Angeles Lakers (17-36)
The Lakers dropped yet another on the road as they lost to the Boston Celtics, 113-107, on Friday. That’s now 12 straight road games they’ve lost and 17 of their last 18. Despite their constant losing, though, they’ve at least remained competitive. They’ve gone 4-0 against the spread in their last four games since suffering their franchise-worst 122-73 loss to the Dallas Mavericks.
Lou Williams once again paced the team with 21 points against the Mavs, the fourth 20-plus point outing in his last five games. Meanwhile, D’Angelo Russell had another very good game with 20 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists. Russell has been awesome in the three games since his return from a three-game absence. He’s averaging 19.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, 9 assists, 1.3 steals and 1 block during that span.
The Lakers could also get back Julius Randle, who has missed the last four games due to injury. Randle had a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds in the Lakers’ 118-112 loss to the Knicks earlier this season.
Betting on the New York Knicks (22-30)
The New York Knicks just can’t get a good string of games together. After just barely beating the Brooklyn Nets, they immediately fell to the Cavs, 111-104, and failed to start another winning streak. The Knicks haven’t won back-to-back games since just before Christmas. They’re just 6-12 in 18 games this 2017.
The Knicks will be without starting center Joakim, who injured his hamstring against the Cavs. But the Knicks should have enough cover with Kyle O’Quinn and rookie Willy Hernangomez, who has finally broken into the Knicks rotation. He’s averaging nearly 16 points and 12 rebounds over his last three games.
New York could also get back starting point guard Derrick Rose after missing the last four games with an ankle injury. Rose and backup Brandon Jennings did a number on the Lakers in their first matchup as they had 44 points. Kristaps Porzingis also starred with a team-high 26 points, 13 boards and 7 blocks.
The Knicks haven’t been great at home recently. In fact, they’ve been awful. They’ve gone 2-8 (4-6 against the spread) in their last 10 games. But they have been exceptional when they’ve got the Lakers in town. The Knicks are 5-0 (4-1 ATS) in their last five home games against the Lakers.
Writer’s Prediction
The Knicks (-5) extend the Lakers’ road losing streak with a 110-104 home win.
