Betting on the Los Angeles Rams (2-0)
In a rematch of last season’s NFC title game, the Rams once again came out on top against the New Orleans Saints, as they defeated Sean Payton’s men at home, 27-9, last Sunday. Rams quarterback Jared Goff went 19 of 28 for 283 passing yards and a touchdown without an interception while running back Todd Gurley rushed for 63 yards and a touchdown. Gurley’s workload is apparently being limited by the Rams, and it helps them that he has a capable backup in Malcolm Brown, who had a 6.2 rushing yards per carry in the Saints game. The Rams may have gotten a pass a bit in the Saints game for not facing Drew Brees for an entire game (Brees exited with an injury), but they still have enough talent and depth to slow down any given opposing offense. That includes the Browns’ attack. The Rams are ninth in the league with 18.0 points and eighth with 293.5 total yards allowed per game.
The Rams are 4-1 against the spread (ATS) in their last five road games.
Betting on the Cleveland Browns (1-1)
It did not take the Browns a long time to get the monkey off their back which was their shocking loss to the Tennessee Titans at home back in Week 1. Last Monday, the Browns bounced back and destroyed the New York Jets on the road, 23-3. Quarterback Baker Mayfield had 325 passing yards and a touchdown against an interception on 19 of 35 completions. A big chunk of those yards came on a single play when Mayfield hooked up with wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. for an 89-yard touchdown. Mayfield needs to be more accurate with his passes, as he now has five interceptions on the season. The Browns are 13th in the NFL with 274.5 passing yards per game. Defensively, the Browns’ pass rush will be a major weapon for them in containing the Rams’ offense. Cleveland has eight sacks so far this year after sacking Jets quarterback four times. The Browns are second overall with a defensive 12.7 defensive sack percentage.
The Browns are 2-2 ATS in their last two home games.
Writer’s Prediction
The Rams win, 24-20.
