Regular Season Record: 2-2
Justin Herbert passed for 340 passing yards and two touchdowns without an interception on 27/39 completions in the win over the Texans. It is not going to be that easy for Herbert but that was a commendable performance from the former Oregon Ducks star nonetheless, considering that he did not have Keenan Allen downfield in Week 5. Allen missed another game because of a hamstring problem but he could be back in action as soon as Week 5. In any case, Mike Williams, Gerald Everett, and Austin Ekeler are all prolific weapons who can play huge roles around Herbert when they take on Cleveland, which just allowed Atlanta to score twice on four red-zone trips.
The Chargers are 5-1 against the spread in their last six games in Week 5. They are also 7-2-1 against the spread in their last 10 games in October.
Betting on the Cleveland Browns (+3.0)
Regular Season Record: 2-2
The hope for the Browns is that they will finally have both Myles Garrett and Jadeveon Clowney back in action in Week 5. That is a scary scenario for the Chargers, especially since Herbert must still be feeling at least a little sore after sustaining a rib injury in Week 2. On offense, Browns running back Nick Chubb is almost a lock to score a touchdown each game. He now has five rushing touchdowns this season and has rushed for at least 113 yards in three of four games this year. After allowing Texans rookie tailback Dameon Pierce to rush for 131 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries in Week 5, the Chargers’ run defense is looking prime to be clobbered by Chubb on Sunday.
The Browns are 6-2 against the spread in their last eight meetings with the Chargers. The Under is 6-0 in Cleveland’s last six games after giving up over 150 yards rushing in the previous outing.
Writer’s Prediction
The Browns win, 27-23.
