Betting on the Louisville Cardinals (-2)

There’s just no stopping Louisville right now. The Cardinals stretched their unbeaten run to four games with a resounding 59-28 victory over the Marshall Thundering Herd on Saturday night. Quarterback Lamar Jackson was the star of the show for the Cards, throwing a career-high 417 yards and five touchdowns. He also ran for two more scores for the Cards who surpassed 600 yards of offense for the third time this season.

Apart from Jackson, running back Brandon Radcliff also impressed in the win against Marshall. He had his third straight 100-yard rushing game, finishing with 131 yards on 19 carries against the Thundering Herd. He is 24th in the FBS in rushing offense, averaging 106.8 yards on the ground per contest.

Things are bound to get tougher, though, for the unbeaten Cardinals as standing in their way in the next game are the reigning ACC champions Clemson Tigers. The Cards have lost in each of their last two meetings with the Tigers. Both games have been tight affairs, though, with Louisville losing by an average of just 4.5 points. In fact, the Cardinals have covered the spread in those two games.

For the Cards to finally grab their first-ever victory against the Tigers, they will need Jackson to stand tall once again. Through four games for Louisville this season, Jackson has accounted for a whopping 25 touchdowns (13 passing, 12 rushing).

Louisville is 6-4 SU and ATS in its last 10 road games. The Cardinals are pegged at +500 to win the national championship this season.

Betting on the Clemson Tigers (+2)

The Clemson Tigers will head to their ACC showdown with Louisville with momentum on their side after trouncing the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, 26-7, on Thursday night. It was another impressive victory for the Tigers, who improved their season-record to 4-0. The Tigers have won their first four assignments by an average of 22.5 points.

Providing the impetus for Clemson’s sizzling start has been their phenomenal defense. The Tigers are allowing just 11 points per game this season, fifth-lowest in the entire FBS. They held Georgia Tech to just 124 total yards on Thursday. That defensive performance helped Clemson record its first win at Georgia Tech since 2003.

For the Tigers to preserve their unbeaten record against the Cardinals, they will need to put the clamps on the red-hot Lamar Jackson. The Louisville quarterback is sixth in the FBS in rushing offense, racking up 526 yards on the ground over his first four games. That won’t faze the Tigers, though, who are 15th in the FBS in rushing defense, allowing just 92.8 yards per game on the ground this season.

Clemson is 9-1 SU and 5-5 ATS in its last 10 home games. The Tigers are pegged at +500 to win the national championship this season.

Writer’s Prediction

Louisville (-2) edges past Clemson in a thriller, 34-31.
