Betting on the Louisville Cardinals (24-6 Overall / 15-4 Conference)
The Cardinals bounced back from a road loss in Tallahassee against the Florida State Seminoles by venting their frustration on the Virginia Tech Hokies last Sunday, earning a 68-52 win in their regular-season home finale. The Cardinals won despite missing the services of big man Malik Williams, who rode the bench with a boot on his sprained foot. His status for the rematch against Virginia remains uncertain as of this writing, but the Cardinals could just elect to rest him up and have him ready for the national tournament. In that case, Dwayne Sutton and Steven Enoch will look to plug the middle on both ends of the floor. Sutton combined for 16 points and 20 rebounds in the Hokies game, while Jordan Nwora had 20 points and 12 rebounds in 36 minutes. The Cardinals defeated Virginia at home in February, 80-73, with Nwora scoring 22 points and Enoch having 13 markers.
The Cardinals are 3-1 against the spread (ATS) in their last four games.
Betting on the Virginia Cavaliers (22-7 Overall / 14-5 Conference)
A late surge has the Hoos virtually assuring their slot in March Madness. The Cavaliers have won each of their last seven games, including their 52-50 victory over the Duke Blue Devils last Saturday. In their most recent game, the Cavaliers held on to score a 46-44 road win over the Miami Hurricanes last Wednesday. Virginia didn’t shoot the ball well, making just 36.7 percent of their shots against the Canes, but they made sure to make life harder for Miami’s offense, which knocked down only 35.5 percent of their shots from the field. Virginia’s defense has the ability to shut down better offenses than Miami’s. In their win over Duke, the Hoos limited the Blue Devils to record an atrocious 30.5 field goal shooting percentage. In addition, Virginia owns the best scoring defense in the nation, as it allows just 52.6 points per game. The Cavaliers’ odds to win Saturday’s game will get a boost if Cardinals big man Williams gets sidelined again. Williams had 13 points off the bench in the win over Virginia.
The Cavaliers are 5-1 ATS in their last six games.
Writer’s Prediction
Virginia wins, 57-55.
