Betting on the LSU Tigers (+4.5)

Record: 6-6 Overall / 3-5 Conference

It’s been a rough season for LSU. Finishing the regular season with a .500 record was far from what Tigers fans envisioned the team before the season started. But at least LSU clinched bowl eligibility, thanks to a recent upswing. After a back-breaking stretch in which LSU lost three games in a row to ranked SEC teams, the Tigers closed out their schedule with consecutive victories over the UL Monroe Warhawks and the then-no. 15 Texas A&M Aggies — both at home. Although LSU hasn’t been particularly good on either side of the field, one good thing about the team is that it doesn’t commit plenty of penalties. In fact, the Tigers are sixth in the nation with just 0.03 penalties per play and second with only 32.9 penalty yards per game. LSU bettors would certainly love the fact that the Tigers are 6-0 against the spread in the last six times LSU faced a team from the Big 12.

Moreover, LSU is 5-0 against the spread in its last five games in neutral locations.

Betting on the Kansas State Wildcats (-4.5)

Record: 7-5 Overall / 4-5 Conference

The report is that quarterback Skylar Thompson is “looking healthy” ahead of the meeting with LSU. Thompson is the best quarterback over at the side of the Wildcats, but his availability for the Texas Bowl has been put in question since he suffered an ankle injury in a 22-17 road loss to the Texas Longhorns late last November. But over an entire month of rest and recovery could be enough for Thompson to be back out on the field and help Kansas State’s offense. The Wildcats finished the regular season averaging 25.9 points per game. It’s running back Deuce Vaughn, however, who is the more dangerous weapon for the Wildcats’ attack. Vaughn collected a total of 1,258 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns while averaging 5.9 yards per carry in 2021. Then there’s Kansas State’s defense that ranked 19th in the nation in 2021 with just 20.9 points allowed per game.

Kansas State is 4-1 ATS in its last 5 neutral site games as a favorite.

Writer’s Prediction

Kansas State wins, 24-20.
