TV Broadcast: CBS

Betting on the LSU Tigers (+5)

Record: 19-9 Overall / 11-6 Conference

LSU wasn’t going to allow itself to be a stepping stone for a potential Cinderella as it beat the St. Bonaventure Bonnies in the first round easily, 76-61. Tigers star Cameron Thomas helped his NBA stock by exploding for 27 points on 7-of-18 shooting from the field, with 11 points coming from the foul line. But the real key for LSU was its rebounding, as the Tigers edged St. Bonaventure on the boards by a massive +19 margin. Three Tigers finished the game with a double-double in points and rebounds, and while LSU is unlikely to feature that many players with those stats against Michigan, that kind of effort will keep the Wolverines on their toes. As a team, LSU is fifth in the nation in adjusted offensive efficiency with 120.1 points per 100 possessions and finished first in SEC play with a 16.1 turnover percentage.

LSU is 5-0-1 against the spread in its last six games overall.

Betting on the Michigan Wolverines (-5)

Record: 21-4 Overall / 14-3 Conference

As expected, Michigan blew out the Texas Southern Tigers in the first round to the tune of an 82-66 score. The Wolverines applied suffocating defense on Texas Southern, which shot just 35.9 percent from the field and went 1 of 12 from long range. Freshman center Hunter Dickinson put up 16 points and only two rebounds, though he saw just 24 minutes of action, as he never really needed that much. With Dickinson fresh, he should be able to be 100 percent ready for LSU. His presence in the middle and rebounding are keys to containing LSU, as the Tigers should find it hard to match up against the 7-foot Wolverines star. LSU can’t get a defensive rebound to save its life, as the Tigers are only 320th in the nation in opponents’ offensive rebound percentage, which could mean that Michigan is going to win the possession battle and dictate the pace in this game.

The over is 4-1 in Michigan’s last five games after failing to cover in the previous contest.

Writer’s Prediction

Michigan wins, 79-70.
